Germany and France advise against using IE

2010-01-22

Following the major cyber attack against Google and other companies last month, both the German and French governments have advised against using Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser.

Daniel Shane of InformationAge.com writes that despite Microsoft's claims that the security issue exists in older versions of the software and that there is no risk in using the latest releases of Internet Explorer, that Germany's Federal Office for Information Security has written on its official website that even running the most up-to-date version of the browser in 'safety mode' cannot guarantee security - and suggests that users download an alternative browser. Additionally, France's CERTA agency, which monitors foreign cyber threats, has also issued a statement urging users to switch to a different browser until the issue is resolved. With Internet Explorer currently being the world's most popular browser, it will be interesting to see how this will cause a shift in the browsers current 62.7% market share.
